Ex-Ogun NANS Chairman Leads 10,000 Students in Solidarity Walk for Senator Yayi

In a massive show of support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, former Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun State Axis, and Coordinator of the Yayi Progressive Movement (YPM) Student’s wing, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, on Wednesday led 10,000 students in a solidarity walk across the streets of Abeokuta.

Opaleye, while addressing journalists during the walk, said the demonstration was organized to send a clear message that Ogun State students are fully behind Senator Adeola Yayi’s governorship ambition, citing his track record of performance and pro-student disposition.

“Senator Yayi has done well as the Senator representing Ogun West. He recently awarded bursaries and scholarships to over 5,000 students in Ogun State.

“These are the qualities we have seen in him. This solidarity walk is just the tip of the iceberg. We are planning to deliver 250,000 votes to him from the students’ constituency,” he added.

The former students’ leader also called on the next governor of Ogun State to allocate 26 per cent of the state’s annual budget to education, in line with the benchmark set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.

He added that students would continue to engage the senator on increased funding for education if he is elected governor.

“We have the UNESCO standard of 26 per cent. Apart from supporting him, we are going to hold him accountable to ensure there is a budgetary allocation of 26 per cent to education,” he said.

“I believe he will do it, because he is someone who values qualitative education,” he stated.

The student leader further urged the senator to prioritise the rehabilitation of infrastructure in tertiary institutions across the state, including laboratories and classrooms.

“Our campuses are in dire need of infrastructural development. We are hoping that he will bring significant development in terms of laboratories, classrooms, and other facilities,” he said.

“We will keep pushing, and we are hopeful that he will deliver for Nigerian students,” he added.

Opaleye also called on students across Ogun State to rally behind Adeola’s governorship ambition, expressing confidence that the movement would mobilize 250,000 votes for him in the 2027 governorship election.
