FRSC RS11.HQ Flags Off ‘Operation Sanity’ to Tackle Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Osun, Ondo and Oyo states, Assistant Corps Marshal Edward Odiete, has flagged off a 3-day special enforcement operation across the three states under the zone to reduce road crashes and promote safer driving.

The Zonal Commanding Officer, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, said the exercise tagged ‘Operation Sanity’ will run in all FRSC Commands in the zone.

The FRSC boss charged sector commanders in the zone to ensure motorists strictly comply with the objectives of the exercise, noting that the goal of the operation is to significantly reduce crashes on highways across the zone and the nation at large.

According to him, the operation targets major traffic violations identified as leading causes of crashes. These include speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, tyre violations, drunk driving, seatbelt violations, phone use while driving, route violations, and vehicles emitting excessive smoke.

The Zonal Commanding Officer warned that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with traffic laws. He added that the operation will combine enforcement with public enlightenment to promote safer driving habits.

He cautioned specifically against overloading, noting that it endangers passengers, damages roads, and increases the risk of fatal crashes.

The FRSC boss urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid all forms of distractions, and exercise patience, stressing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
