OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR ABDUCTED BUNGUDU LG CHAIRMAN

The Theatre Command of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified efforts to rescue the abducted Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a terrorist attack on his residence.

In a statement, signed by media information officer lieutenant colonel Aliyu Danja, the Theatre Command said the terrorists attacked the chairman’s residence in the early hours of Saturday, 25th July 2026, abducting him and members of his family after overpowering his police and vigilante security detail.

The statement said troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded immediately after hearing gunshots and engaged the fleeing attackers in a fierce gun battle.

The swift intervention forced the terrorists to abandon five members of the chairman’s family, including his wife, two children, his mother and another relative, all of whom were rescued safely.

According to the statement, the terrorists escaped into nearby bushes with the council chairman.

The attack claimed the lives of two police officers and one local vigilante who were part of the chairman’s security detail, while a civilian was also killed.

The chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries during the attack.

The Theatre Command said it had activated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, and local vigilantes. Security forces are currently conducting operations in suspected terrorist hideouts to secure the safe release of the abducted chairman.

The Command assured the Zamfara State Government and residents that all available operational resources have been deployed to ensure a successful rescue mission. It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing operation.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property and pledged to continue working with other security agencies until the abducted chairman is rescued and those responsible are brought to justice.
