NIS CLARIFIES PASSPORT CENTRALISATION REFORM
The Nigeria Immigration Service has clarified that its ongoing Passport Centralisation Reform will not disrupt passport processing or issuance across the country or at Nigerian missions abroad.
In a statement, the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, says the reform involves migrating passport production to a Central Personalisation Centre at the Service Headquarters in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen the security, integrity, and efficiency of the passport system.
The Service explains that the migration is being implemented in phases to minimise operational risks and service disruption, with several passport offices and foreign missions already onboarded, while the remaining centres will be integrated before the end of 2026.
The Nigeria Immigration Service assures applicants that passport offices nationwide and designated embassies and consulates will continue to process and issue passports without interruption.
The Statement adds that the reform will improve accountability, eliminate manual intervention in passport personalisation, and guarantee uniform security standards across all Nigerian passports.
