FRSC Bauchi Zonal Command Begins August ‘Operation Ride Safe’ To Curb Overloading, Faulty Tyres

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, RS12 Zonal Command, Bauchi, has announced the commencement of its three-day Zonal Intervention Special Patrol, ZISP, code-named “Operation Ride Safe” from Wednesday, 12th to Friday, 14th August, 2026.

The FRSC Zonal Commander in charge of RS12HQ Zonal Command, Bauchi, Assistant Corps Marshal ‘Leye Adegboyega, in a statement on Tuesday noted that the operation was part of sustained efforts by the command to reduce Road Traffic Crashes, RTCs, fatalities and injuries resulting from Overloading, Mixed Loading, OVL, and the use of Worn-Out/Expired Tyres, TYV, across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.

The FRSC boss noted that the August edition of the Zonal Special Intervention Patrol is in compliance with the directive of the National Headquarters requiring Zonal Commands to initiate Special Intervention Patrols tailored towards peculiar road traffic challenges within their respective jurisdictions.

According to him, the operation will cover the entire RS12 Zone, comprising three Sector Commands and 20 Unit Commands, with deployment across major highways, identified black spots, motor parks, loading points and other high-risk locations to enhance enforcement, public enlightenment, rescue readiness and operational visibility.

The RS12HQ Zonal Commanding Officer further stated that the operation is a proactive response to persistent traffic offences causing crashes, particularly overloading, mixed loading and the use of worn-out or expired tyres.

He noted that while overloading and mixed loading compromise vehicle stability and increase the severity of crashes, the use of worn-out or expired tyres can significantly compromise vehicle control and safety, particularly during emergency braking and adverse road conditions, which often result in tyre bursts.

He emphasized that the operation is designed not only to enforce compliance with traffic regulations but also to educate motorists, commercial drivers, transport operators and the general public on the dangers associated with these unsafe practices.

According to him, patrol teams have been directed to intensify enforcement against overloading and mixed loading; conduct detection and enforcement against worn-out and expired tyres; inspect commercial vehicles before departure; carry out public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks, loading points and in communities; engage stakeholders including transport unions, fleet operators and vehicle owners; increase patrol visibility along major highways and identified high-risk corridors; and ensure prompt rescue response where necessary.

He added that the Corps would also continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Department of State Services, DSS, Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies, where necessary, to ensure effective enforcement and a secure operational environment.

The FRSC boss appealed to motorists, commercial drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, vehicle owners and passengers to support the initiative by obeying all traffic rules and avoiding practices that endanger lives.

“Drivers and vehicle owners are particularly urged to avoid overloading, refrain from conveying passengers alongside goods and livestock, and ensure that their vehicles are equipped with safe and serviceable tyres before embarking on any journey,” he said.

The Zonal Commanding Officer reaffirmed the Zone’s commitment to achieving the FRSC Corporate Strategic Goal of reducing Road Traffic Crash fatalities and injuries by 10% through data-driven intervention, stressing that the success of the operation requires the collective responsibility of all stakeholders and road users.

He assured residents that the FRSC RS12 Zonal Command remained resolute in its mandate of creating a safer motoring environment across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States, and called on all road users to support “Operation Ride Safe” by making safety a priority on every journey.
