OSUN DECIDES: TINUBU CALLS FOR PEACEFUL  POLL, TASKS INEC, SECURITY AGENCIES ON CREDIBLE ELECTION

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The President urged eligible voters in the state to turn out in large numbers and perform their civic responsibility peacefully, assuring them of adequate security before, during and after the election.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu stressed that the election must be free, fair and orderly, while charging INEC to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

The President described the Osun governorship election as a critical opportunity for the electoral body to demonstrate its preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging INEC to conduct the poll in a manner that would further strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.

Tinubu also directed the Inspector-General of Police and other security chiefs involved in the exercise to provide maximum security at polling units and prevent any attempt to disrupt the electoral process. He emphasized that voters and election officials must be protected from intimidation, harassment and violence.

According to Bayo Onanuga, the President assured residents of Osun State that all necessary measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful election, encouraging voters to freely elect the candidate of their choice.

President Tinubu maintained that credible elections remain the cornerstone of democracy, stressing that the outcome of the Osun Governorship Election must reflect the genuine will of the people.
