Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid tribute to the late former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, stating that Nigerians will long remember his purposeful leadership and indelible contributions to governance.

Atiku made the remarks during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at their residence in Abuja.

Recalling their time in office—when Atiku served as Vice President and Idris as Governor of Kogi State—Atiku noted that the late governor’s achievements remain deeply etched on the sands of time. He urged current political leaders to emulate the quality and selfless leadership demonstrated by Idris during his lifetime.

Offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the late governor’s soul, the former Vice President encouraged the grieving family to take solace in the purposeful and impactful life he lived.

Also present during the visit, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo expressed appreciation to the former Vice President for standing with the family and the state during their moment of grief.

Governor Ododo described the late elder statesman as a dedicated public servant who served Kogi State without blemish. He added that it was a point of pride that throughout his tenure, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris operated with integrity and did not violate any provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Arrangements are currently underway as the remains of the late former governor are expected in Abuja for final funeral rites.
