BELLS UNIVERSITY HOSTS ENGINEERING LEADERS AS OLUMAYOWA IDOWU LEADS AI-FOCUSED INDUCTION CEREMONY

…To spotlight innovation, digital transformation and the future of engineering

The College of Engineering, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, is set to host renowned engineering leader and researcher, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, as Guest Speaker at its 13th Graduate Members Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Idowu, who chairs the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Branch Chairmen Forum, will address graduating engineers and other participants on the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges associated with the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into modern engineering practice.

The ceremony, which will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the BUPF International Conference Centre, Bells University of Technology, will be held under the theme, **“Engineering the Future: Innovators in a World Powered by Artificial Intelligence.”**

The event comes at a time when artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies are reshaping engineering education, industrial operations, infrastructure development and professional practice across the world.

A respected engineering professional with extensive experience in leadership, research and international professional engagement, Idowu is expected to challenge the graduating engineers to embrace technological advancement and position themselves as innovators capable of developing practical solutions to pressing national and global challenges.

His lecture will explore the changing demands of the engineering profession, particularly the growing need for digital literacy, adaptability, interdisciplinary expertise, creative thinking and responsible application of emerging technologies.

Currently serving as Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, a body representing 94 branches of the Society across Nigeria and the diaspora, Idowu has continued to contribute to professional engineering development at national, continental and international levels.

He is a member of the Capacity Building Committee of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) and the Hackathon Task Force of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), where he contributes to initiatives promoting engineering capacity development, innovation and global collaboration.

Idowu is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a COREN-registered engineer and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

An advocate of technology-driven development, he has consistently promoted the concept of “Engineering of Impact,” a leadership philosophy that encourages engineers to look beyond professional titles and theoretical knowledge by delivering practical, sustainable and measurable solutions to societal needs.

His appearance at the university is expected to expose the graduating engineers to broader perspectives on how artificial intelligence can enhance engineering productivity, accelerate innovation, support sustainable development and open new frontiers for professional growth.

The event will also feature some of the country’s foremost engineering personalities.

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, FAEng, MFR, will preside as Chairman of the Occasion, while the President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, FNSE, will attend as Special Guest of Honour.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Engr. Prof. Abel O. Olorunnisola, is the Chief Host, while the Dean of the College of Engineering, Engr. Prof. Olamide O. Olusanya, will serve as Host.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ota Branch, Engr. Fabian Anyanwu, will participate as Co-Host.

Beyond the ceremonial administration of professional oaths, the induction programme is intended to strengthen the connection between academic training and the expectations of professional engineering practice.

It will also provide an opportunity to remind the inductees of their responsibilities to society, particularly in maintaining professional ethics, safeguarding public welfare, promoting technological innovation and upholding engineering standards.

With artificial intelligence increasingly influencing decision-making, design processes, automation, research and industrial development, the university’s choice of theme highlights the importance of preparing engineering graduates for a technology-driven future.

The gathering is expected to encourage stronger partnerships among academic institutions, engineering professional bodies, regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders in building a workforce equipped to respond to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

For the graduating engineers, the ceremony will mark not only their formal induction into the engineering profession but also the beginning of a new responsibility to apply knowledge, embrace innovation and contribute to the advancement of society.

Idowu’s lecture is therefore expected to reinforce the message that the future of engineering belongs to professionals who can combine technical excellence, artificial intelligence, innovation and purposeful leadership to create lasting impact.
