Sola Sobowale, Nollywood Stars Celebrate Humanity as Esther and Joseph Homes for the Aged Opens in Ibadan
The opening of Esther and Joseph Homes for the Aged in Ibadan has attracted commendation for Nollywood actress Lady Sola Sobowale and other movie stars for their commitment to giving back to society and providing care for the elderly.
The event, held off Alao Akala Street, Akobo, Ibadan, brought together notable personalities, including members of the Nigerian movie industry, who turned out to support Sobowale and celebrate the establishment of the centre.
Reacting to the development, a guest at the event described the initiative as a demonstration of how celebrities could use their influence and resources to create lasting institutions that address societal needs.
He noted that Nigerian entertainers were increasingly looking beyond their careers to invest in initiatives that promote social development, preserve cultural values and improve the welfare of vulnerable members of society.
According to him, the establishment of the home sends a strong message about the importance of caring for the elderly, adding that such initiatives offer hope for a society where compassion and collective responsibility are prioritised.
He, however, stressed the need for government to provide an enabling environment through sound policies, infrastructure, electricity and adequate security to encourage more individuals and organisations to invest in humanitarian projects.
Also present at the ceremony was the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, who was commended for his support and royal presence at the occasion.
Reflecting on Ibadan’s urban development, the guest observed that the city had experienced remarkable expansion, particularly in areas such as Akobo, which were once regarded as distant suburbs.
He recalled growing up in Agugu, noting that despite the city’s transformation into a sprawling metropolis, Ibadan has continued to retain its identity as home.
The ceremony ended on a note of fulfilment, with renewed calls for individuals, especially public figures and cultural icons, to deploy their influence towards initiatives that promote humanity and improve the lives of others.

He concluded by commending Sola Sobowale and the Esther and Joseph Centre for what he described as a worthy contribution to elderly care.
