UMAHI HAILS TINUBU’S INFRASTRUCTURE REVOLUTION IN SOUTH-EAST

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is bringing to reality several strategic road projects in the South-East that were conceived during the colonial era but abandoned for decades.

According to a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, Umahi made the remarks while leading senior journalists and government officials on an inspection tour of ongoing federal infrastructure projects in Ebonyi State.

The minister identified the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue Trans-Saharan Superhighway as one of the flagship projects being executed under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a long-forgotten colonial-era initiative now receiving renewed attention.

Umahi disclosed that construction work is progressing steadily on the highway, with the first section extended from 118 kilometres to 123.6 kilometres, while the second section running through Benue and Kogi states to Nasarawa has been awarded at a cost of ₦668 billion.

He said the project, which has recorded significant progress despite the rainy season, is expected to boost economic activities, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen regional connectivity between southern and northern Nigeria, as well as neighbouring Cameroon.

The minister also noted that the concrete road technology being deployed on the project is helping to ensure durability and all-season construction.

During the inspection tour, the delegation visited critical infrastructure sites, including bridges, concrete pavements and the Ndi-Egbe Bridge linking Ebonyi and Cross River states.

Also speaking, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, commended President Tinubu for ongoing infrastructure projects in the South-East and described Ebonyi as one of the safest states in the country.

The governor highlighted his administration’s investments in roads, healthcare facilities and water projects across the state, while expressing support for the Federal Government’s development agenda.
