FG PARTNERS WITH REMINGTON ON HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING BOOST

The Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) and Remington Pharmaceutical Industries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at the local manufacturing of the United Nations International Multiple Micronutrient Antenatal Preparation (UNIMMAP) Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) in Nigeria.

The agreement also includes provisions for potential technology transfer, marking a significant step toward strengthening local pharmaceutical production capacity in the country.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, the National Coordinator of PVAC, Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, described the initiative as a major opportunity to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and improve access to essential nutritional supplements for pregnant women and children.

He noted that the collaboration, which involves stakeholders such as UNICEF, the Gates Foundation, and other partners, reflects Nigeria’s commitment to strategic partnerships in the health sector.

Mukhtar added that the agreement demonstrates that Nigeria remains open to investment in healthcare manufacturing and the production of essential medicines and health commodities.

In separate remarks, the Executive Director of Remington Pharmaceutical Industries, Shahab Q. Khokhar, and Senior Program Officer for Maternal, Newborn, Child Nutrition and Health at the Gates Foundation, Zeina Sifri, described the MoU as an important milestone toward local production of lifesaving health products.

They emphasized that Nigeria’s large population and strategic position in Africa make it a key hub for expanding healthcare manufacturing and improving regional access to essential nutrition products.

The partners expressed optimism that the collaboration will strengthen healthcare delivery systems and support maternal and child health outcomes across the country.
