NASARAWA POLICE WARN AGAINST ELECTORAL ACT VIOLATIONS, ORDER STRICT ENFORCEMENT

The Nasarawa State Police Command has issued a strong warning to politicians, supporters, and political groups over alleged violations of the Electoral Act, following a violent clash between rival supporters in parts of the state.

The clash reportedly led to the destruction of property, vandalisation of campaign billboards, and damage to vehicles belonging to innocent members of the public.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command warned against unlawful political rallies, processions, and campaigns conducted outside the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The statement referenced Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which stipulates that political campaigns shall commence not earlier than 150 days before polling day and end 24 hours before the election.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro, expressed concern over the conduct of some political supporters, noting that their actions threaten the peace currently enjoyed in the state.

He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to providing a level playing field for all political actors while ensuring the protection of lives and property.

The Command warned that all political parties, aspirants, and support groups must strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act on campaigns, rallies, and related activities or face the full weight of the law.
