Ogun Restricts Graduation Ceremonies to Terminal Classes, Bans Extravagant Celebrations

The Ogun State Government has directed that graduation ceremonies in public and private schools across the state be limited strictly to learners in terminal classes.

Under the new directive, only pupils and students completing recognised stages of their education—Primary Six, Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 and Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3—will be permitted to hold graduation ceremonies.

The government also prohibited the use of canopies, Aso Ebi, customised outfits and other forms of lavish social displays during school graduation events.

According to the directive, graduation ceremonies for eligible learners must be conducted in a modest manner and should not impose any financial burden on parents, guardians or students.

The state government said the measure is aimed at promoting simplicity in school activities and preventing unnecessary financial pressure on families.

School administrators have therefore been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines, which apply to both public and private educational institutions across Ogun State.
