OYSIEC, Political Parties Set Stage for LG Polls as Primaries Begin June 29
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has commenced consultations with political stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, with party primaries scheduled to hold between June 29 and July 27, 2026.

At an interactive meeting held at the commission’s headquarters in Ibadan, OYSIEC Chairman, Dr. Afeez Adeniyi, met with representatives of registered political parties and distributed copies of the election guidelines to facilitate preparations for the electoral process.
Addressing party leaders, Dr. Adeniyi underscored the pivotal role of political parties in ensuring a successful election, urging them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities diligently to guarantee a credible, transparent and peaceful exercise.
He stressed the need for political parties to conduct their primaries within the approved timeframe and submit the names of their successful candidates to the commission in accordance with electoral regulations.
The OYSIEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to a free and fair electoral process and called on all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the guidelines.
Speaking on behalf of the political parties, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr. Kabiru Akinade, pledged the council’s cooperation and support for OYSIEC before, during and after the local government elections.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the electoral commission to ensure a smooth and credible conduct of the grassroots polls across Oyo State.
