Badejo-Okusanya Becomes NBA’s First Female President In Over Two Decades

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), becoming the association’s first female president in more than two decades.

Badejo-Okusanya polled 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast in Saturday’s NBA national election, defeating Lateef Akangbe (SAN), who secured 7,934 votes, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), who garnered 5,855 votes.

Other officials elected into the NBA’s national executive include Oghenero Okoro as First Vice President, Afam Okeke as General Secretary, Aghogho Gladys as Assistant General Secretary, and Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam as Welfare Secretary, alongside other successful candidates.

Reacting to her victory, Badejo-Okusanya thanked members of the association for their confidence, describing her election as a collective victory for lawyers who believe in a stronger and more inclusive Bar.

She pledged to pursue her vision of “A Bolder Bar That Works for Everyone,” promising to build a more responsive association that serves the interests of all legal practitioners.
