FG Partners Hydrogeologists to Boost Groundwater Mapping, Water Resource Management

The Federal Government has announced plans to collaborate with the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists to strengthen groundwater mapping and improve data collection nationwide as part of efforts to ensure sustainable water resource management and national development.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, disclosed this in Abuja while receiving the President of the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists, Fashe-Adam Francisca, and members of her delegation.

Utsev said the proposed partnership would enhance the regulation of water schemes undertaken by individuals, communities and governments at all levels, while promoting sustainable groundwater development and management across the country.

The minister commended the association for its contributions to groundwater exploration, protection, management and advocacy, noting that the ministry remains committed to working with professional bodies to strengthen the water resources sector and improve service delivery to Nigerians.

He also assured the delegation of the ministry’s support for ongoing initiatives, including the development of the National Water Compact and the conduct of environmental impact assessments for water-related projects.

Both parties expressed optimism that the collaboration would contribute significantly to sustainable water resources management, food security and overall national development.
