Kano, Jigawa, Katsina Face Four-Hour Power Outage as TCN Upgrades Grid
Residents of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states will experience a temporary power outage on Sunday, June 28, 2026, as the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) undertakes a planned maintenance operation on the national transmission network.
According to a statement by NISO, electricity supply will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carry out critical maintenance works at the 330kV Kumbotso Substation.
The operator explained that the upgrade is part of efforts to strengthen the national grid, enhance transmission capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply across the affected states and other parts of the country.
NISO noted that the maintenance project represents a strategic investment in the nation’s power infrastructure and is expected to boost the resilience and efficiency of the electricity network.
While apologizing for the temporary inconvenience, the agency assured customers that normal power supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance exercise.
The statement urged residents and businesses in the affected states to make adequate preparations ahead of the scheduled outage.
