POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS OVER VANDALISATION OF ANGIAMA–OPOROMA BRIDGE

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalisation of the newly commissioned Angiama–Oporoma Bridge.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out a coordinated operation following credible intelligence that led to the arrest of the suspects.

The statement disclosed that one of the suspects was arrested in Angiama Community while in possession of two iron plates believed to have been removed from the bridge.

The suspect has since been remanded at the Okaka Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.

Police also arrested a second suspect, who is equally a native of Angiama Community and had earlier evaded arrest. He was apprehended at Obele Street in Yenagoa.

The Command said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and public assets across the state.

He warned that acts of vandalism and sabotage of government facilities would not be tolerated and assured residents that offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around government facilities and critical infrastructure to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
