Windstorm: Over 2,000 Households Hit, as NEDC Assesses  Damage

 

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has conducted an assessment of communities affected by a devastating windstorm in Gashua and environs, Bade LGA, Yobe State.

 

The assessment team was led by NEDC State Coordinator, Professor,Ali Ibrahim Abbas, alongside the Executive Chairman of Bade LGA, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagana.

 

The visit was aimed at evaluating the extent of damage, identifying priority needs, and determining the immediate support needed to alleviate the suffering of victims.

 

Preliminary findings from the assessment show that over 2,000 households were affected by the windstorm which also claimed 4 lives and caused widespread destruction to critical social infrastructure; homes, schools, boreholes, and shops.

 

While commiserating with the victims, Professor Abbas, on behalf of the NEDC Management and MD Mohammed Goni Alkali, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing urgent relief and support during this difficult period.

 

The NEDC stands with the victims of Gashua windstorm disaster as Governor Buni is in contact with the Management of the Commission,in an effort to mobilize resources to support the affected households .

 

The NEDC acknowledges the efforts of Bade LGA Chairman, SEMA Local Emergency Management Committee, NEDC volunteers, and all stakeholders for their coordination, orderliness, and support during the assessment.

 

The Commission assured residents that intervention is underway to cushion the effects of the disaster.
