2027 Elections: INEC, NOA Move to Tackle Fake News , Boost Voter Participation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over the growing incidence of voter apathy and misinformation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, raised the concern while receiving the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Professor Amupitan stressed the need for sustained public enlightenment to counter fake news and improve citizens’ confidence in the electoral process, noting that misinformation poses a serious threat to credible elections.

Both INEC and NOA pledged to strengthen collaboration through intensive voter education and sensitisation programmes aimed at encouraging greater public participation and ownership of the electoral process as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
