56TH GOC 2 DIV. NIG. ARMY ASSUMES COMMAND

A new general officer commanding, G.O.C has assumed command at the Headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army. He is Major General Auwalu Mahmuda.

A release by Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Danjuma stated that transition ceremony of the 56th GOC took place at Headquarters 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan Oyo State, this Monday, 3rd August 2026.

The release further stated that the newly appointed GOC, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for finding him worthy of the appointment and assured him of his commitment to take the one of the premier Division to an enviable heights.

The GOC, eulogised the immediate past GOC, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife for the incredible achievements he has recorded during his sojourn in the Division with the promise to build on his legacies by keeping the flag flying.

The outgone GOC, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife in the statement expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, who then as COAS appointed him to command the Division.

He equally expressed his appreciation to the COAS, for his subsequent appointment to command 10 Division in Jalingo, Taraba State which is one of the newly established Divisions in the Nigerian Army.

He added that since assumption of command on 19 August 2025, the Division under his watch has achieved a lot both operationally and otherwise which climaxed with the recent rescue operations of abducted Oriire teachers and pupils on 10th July 2026.
