First Lady Reaffirms Food Security Push as State House Garden Yields Fresh Harvest

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has again called on Nigerians to embrace home gardening as part of efforts to strengthen food security and promote healthier living, following another harvest from the State House vegetable garden.

The First Lady made the call during a routine visit to the garden, which was established about two years ago under her #EveryHomeAGarden initiative to encourage households across the country to cultivate vegetables and improve self-sufficiency.

According to her, the garden within the State House continues to record bountiful yields, with fresh produce such as spinach, water leaf and fluted pumpkin harvested during her latest visit.

Senator Tinubu reiterated that home gardening remains a smart and cost-effective way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while contributing to national food security efforts. She also noted that the initiative plays a role in addressing climate change through sustainable agricultural practices.

Apart from showcasing the fresh harvest, the First Lady shared some of the produce with members of her staff and used the opportunity to remind Nigerians about the importance of compassion and giving to others.

The initiative, which began as a national campaign to promote household gardening, continues to encourage citizens to actively participate in efforts aimed at reducing food insecurity and improving nutrition across the country.
