EBOLA UPDATE: TWO SUSPECTED CASES IN ADAMAWA TEST NEGATIVE –NCDC
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says two suspected Ebola cases reported in Yola, Adamawa State, have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing.
The agency says the development confirms that the single case previously reported in the Federal Capital Territory remains Nigeria’s only confirmed Ebola infection.
In a press statement, the NCDC Director General Dr. Jide Idris says the center is working with the Adamawa State Government to investigate the suspected cases, which were isolated and tested.
The negative results have ruled out Ebola infection in both individuals, easing concerns over a possible spread of the disease to the North-East.
However, the NCDC says surveillance and public health measures remain important as Healthcare workers should also be informed of any relevant travel or contact history..
The agency has urged Nigerians to remain calm and rely on official information, while advising anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.
The NCDC says early reporting, public cooperation and continued vigilance remain essential to preventing further transmission.
