Jonathan’s Office Dismisses Fake Report Claiming ₦500bn Bribe Offer

The media office of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has dismissed as false and fabricated a publication alleging that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest against Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, PhD, the former President said the report, published by a little-known platform identified as Igbo Times Magazine, was entirely baseless and lacked any journalistic credibility.

Dr. Eze described the publication as a “deliberate fabrication” designed to mislead the public and drag the former President into unnecessary political controversy. He noted that the story failed to provide basic details such as where and when the alleged statement was made, who was present, or the source of the purported offer.

According to him, the report bears all the hallmarks of fake news, especially at a time when political activities are increasing and misinformation is becoming more prevalent.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the publication in its entirety and to always verify sensational claims before sharing them, warning against the spread of unverified political narratives.

Dr. Eze reaffirmed that the former President remains committed to peace, democratic stability, and responsible public engagement.
