The Benue State Police Command has rescued thirteen passengers kidnapped along the Otukpo–Adoka Road on Friday, the 18th of August,2026, while travelling from Enugu to Abuja.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, indicates that, the rescue followed days of sustained search operations by Command operatives working with local security.
During the operation, officers engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle and neutralized one suspect, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
The victims were found unhurt, received medical attention, and have since been conveyed to their destinations.
The operation also exposed gaps in passenger manifest documentation, as initial records did not capture all victims
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiogbu, commended officers for their courage and resilience.
He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to rid the state of criminal elements and sustain efforts to protect lives and property.
