COURT ORDERS INEC TO RECOGNISE NDC’S MODIFIED LOGO

A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and upload the modified logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The judgment, delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, followed a suit filed by the party after INEC allegedly reverted to an earlier logo used during its registration process instead of the amended version contained in the party’s constitution.

Reacting to the ruling, former Bayelsa State Governor and National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, described the decision as a victory for due process and the rule of law.

According to him, the party’s National Executive Council had approved the modified logo and formally submitted it to INEC. Although the commission initially uploaded the logo, it was later removed and replaced with the earlier version without explanation.

Dickson said the court’s decision has now settled the matter and affirmed the party’s position.

He directed all party members, candidates and supporters to immediately adopt the approved logo in all campaign materials, including posters, banners and other publicity items.

The former governor acknowledged that some members may have already produced campaign materials bearing the old logo and expressed regret over any inconvenience caused.

He noted that while both logos feature the party’s two-finger victory sign, the modified version remains the official emblem recognised in the party’s constitution.

Dickson added that the NDC would continue to pursue its objectives through democratic and lawful means while ensuring compliance with the court’s ruling.

The party is expected to issue further directives to members to ensure uniform use of the approved logo nationwide.
