Operation Ride Safe: FRSC RS12 Bauchi Books 789 Offenders for Overloading, Tyre Violations

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12 Zonal Command, Bauchi, has successfully concluded the September edition of its three-day Zonal Intervention Special Patrol, code named “Operation Ride Safe,” conducted from Wednesday, 16th to Friday, 18th September 2026, across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.

The intervention patrol focused on curtailing Overloading/Mixed Loading and the use of Worn-Out/Expired Tyres (TYV), following the fatal road traffic crash recorded on Monday, 14th September 2026, along the Potiskum–Gombe Road, which claimed seven lives and was attributed to a tyre burst.

The operation recorded a total of 789 offenders and 809 offences, out of which, 457 offences were related to the identified focus offences of Overloading and Tyre Violations (OVL & TYV) across the three Sector Commands.

In the three-day intervention patrol,:
– RS12.1 Bauchi: 237 offenders, 248 offences and 124 focus offences.
– RS12.2 Borno: 286 offenders, 295 offences and 203 focus offences.
– RS12.3 Yobe: 266 offenders, 266 offences and 130 focus offences.

The Zonal Commanding Officer, ACM Leye Adegboyega, _fsi_ , commended the personnel and Commanding Officers for their commitment to the successful execution of the intervention patrol. He reiterated the need for sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, vehicle inspection and stakeholder engagement to address road safety violations that endanger lives.

He further urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, avoid overloading and mixed loading, and desist from using worn-out or expired tyres. Drivers were also advised to conduct proper vehicle inspections before embarking on journeys and to prioritise the safety of passengers and other road users.

The Zonal Command appreciates the cooperation of relevant stakeholders and sister agencies in supporting the intervention patrol and reiterates its commitment to reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries within the Zone.

The next edition of “Operation Ride Safe” is scheduled for October 2026, with continued emphasis on intelligence-driven enforcement, public enlightenment, stakeholder collaboration and other interventions aimed at improving road safety compliance.
