OSGF:FG SETS UP COMMITTEE FOR 66TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

The Federal Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial committee to coordinate activities for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The celebration will be low-key, with activities beginning on September 24 and culminating in a nationwide broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 1.

Speaking at the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Committee, Senator George Akume, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Mrs. Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens, said the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.

He said the celebration will also highlight the achievements of the present administration and its efforts to reposition the country through ongoing reforms.

Activities will begin with a world press conference on September 24, followed by the Juma’at service on September 25.

A church service is scheduled for September 27, while the Independence Day public lecture will hold on September 30.

The committee comprises ministers, presidential advisers, security chiefs and permanent secretaries.

It is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing approved anniversary activities, as well as documenting the events for posterity.
