DEFENCE MINISTER CALLS FOR HOLISTIC APPROACH TO NATIONAL SECURITY
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has said that true and lasting national security cannot be achieved through military force alone but must be anchored on education, hope and the protection of democratic values.
Speaking at the June 12 Special Edition of The Platform Nigeria, the minister, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung Babatunde, stressed the need for a technology-driven approach to tackling evolving security challenges.
He noted that threats such as banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime and transnational violent extremism are becoming increasingly sophisticated, exploiting social media to spread misinformation and deepen social divisions.
The minister also highlighted gains recorded by the Armed Forces, including the neutralisation of key terrorist leaders and the disruption of major criminal networks across the country.
