Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a donation of two billion naira to support the revitalisation of the age-long Akwete Weaving Industry in Abia State.

The First Lady made the announcement during her maiden visit to the Akwete Weavers Village, where she interacted with artisans and observed the traditional weaving process that has been preserved for generations.

While stressing the need to promote Igbo cultural heritage through the use of handwoven Akwete fabrics, Senator Tinubu commended the women of Akwete for their passion, resilience and commitment to preserving the cultural legacy.

The visit also featured a traditional ceremony during which the First Lady was conferred with the title of Ugo Nwanyi of Abia State in recognition of her contributions to national development and women empowerment.
