COURT DENIES BAIL TO MAN ACCUSED OF PLANNING ATTACKS ON ABUJA SCHOOLS

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has denied bail to John Jude Agbo, a man arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of planning multiple attacks on schools within the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik refused the bail application after the prosecution presented its fourth witness and subsequently closed its case in the terrorism and cybercrime trial.

Agbo is facing charges bordering on terrorism and cybercrime over allegations that he planned attacks targeting schools, students and teachers in Abuja.

Ruling on the bail application, Justice Abdulmalik held that the defence failed to provide sufficient evidence to convince the court that the defendant would not jump bail if released.

The court consequently ordered that Agbo be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the continuation of the trial.

Earlier during proceedings, a DSS officer who appeared as a prosecution witness told the court how the agency investigated Agbo and some of his alleged collaborators.

The witness also tendered an audio-visual recording of Agbo’s interview session, which was admitted as evidence and played before the court.

The prosecution thereafter closed its case, paving the way for the defence to open its case.

The matter has been adjourned until September 24, 2026, for continuation of trial, when the defendant is expected to begin his defence.
