DEMOCRACY DAY: STUDENTS HAIL TINUBU’S EDUCATION REFORMS, SEEK HIGHER WELFARE STIPEND

Students of the University of Maiduguri, Kashim Ibrahim University and Ramat Polytechnic have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s education policies, describing them as transformative initiatives that are making higher education more accessible and improving student welfare across the country.

The students, who gathered in Maiduguri to commemorate Democracy Day, highlighted the impact of key Federal Government programmes, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which they said has expanded educational opportunities for thousands of students.

According to them, the scheme reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints. They also used the occasion to celebrate Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

The students noted that more than 1.2 million beneficiaries have been recorded across Northern Nigeria, with over ₦8 billion disbursed to students in Borno State alone.

They explained that beyond paying tuition fees, the education loan scheme provides monthly stipends to support students’ welfare, thereby easing the financial burden on families and enabling beneficiaries to concentrate on their studies. They also acknowledged other government initiatives aimed at reducing transportation costs for students.

While expressing appreciation for the programme’s positive impact, the students appealed to the Federal Government to review the monthly welfare stipend upward to further cushion the rising cost of living.
