EKITI RAAMP CLEARS AIR ON IDO–IPERE–ILUDUN ROAD FLOODING, REAFFIRMS STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

The Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has clarified recent reports surrounding the Ido–Ipere–Iludun Road, reassuring commuters and local communities that the newly constructed project remains structurally sound despite recent flash flooding.

Responding to an online publication claiming that Tuesday’s heavy downpour exposed structural deficiencies in the road, RAAMP confirmed that while temporary flooding and traffic disruption did occur, assertions of poor workmanship or flawed engineering are misleading.

According to an official statement issued by RAAMP Development Communication Officer, O’Seun Ogunsakin, the temporary inundation was driven by severe weather patterns rather than structural failure.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had previously issued advisories warning of heavy rainfall and high surface runoff across multiple states.

Following directives from Governor Biodun Oyebanji, a technical team led by the State Project Coordinator of Ekiti RAAMP, Hon. Sunday Adunmo, conducted an immediate field inspection of the corridor on Wednesday.

The assessment revealed that the flooding stemmed from an accumulation of surface runoff from nearby rivers, combined with heavy sedimentation in downstream discharge channels.

The resulting blockage created a backwater effect, temporarily overflowing onto portions of the road.

The agency highlighted that prior to this incident, no flooding had been recorded along the corridor since construction began in April 2025, except at the Ero Bridge which was promptly replaced with a larger structure to expand water flow capacity.

“The team further confirmed that the three major culverts constructed along the corridor are structurally sound, with satisfactory inlet conditions and unobstructed upstream water flow,” the statement noted.

To permanently address the bottleneck, the Ekiti State Government has commenced state-wide dredging and channelization projects, clearing the accumulated silt in downstream waterways is expected to restore full drainage efficiency along the Ido–Ipere–Iludun route.

RAAMP reaffirmed its confidence in the quality of work executed by contractor Messrs Syriton Nigeria Ltd, assuring residents of Ido, Ipere, and Iludun that necessary technical adjustments are actively being deployed to handle extreme climate conditions.

The agency also appealed to media outlets and the public to verify technical details with official sources before publishing claims regarding public infrastructure.

“The Ekiti State Government and Ekiti RAAMP remain committed to delivering durable rural infrastructure that will improve connectivity, strengthen agricultural value chains, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life of residents across the state,” Ogunsakin noted
