FG DECLARES JUNE 12 PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR DEMOCRACY DAY
The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2026, a public holiday to mark Democracy Day.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, says the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Minister says June 12 remains a significant date in Nigeria’s democratic journey and honours the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic governance.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirms the government’s commitment to the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
He urges Nigerians to use the occasion for civic reflection, national unity, and renewed commitment to democratic values.
