HOUSE URGES FG TO INVEST IN LOCAL DRONE PRODUCTION FOR NATIONAL SECURITY
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to invest in the local production of drones as part of efforts to strengthen national security, improve disaster management, and drive technological advancement across critical sectors of the economy.
The resolution followed a motion moved on the floor of the House by Representative Ademorin Kuye, who stressed the need for Nigeria to develop indigenous drone manufacturing capacity instead of relying heavily on imports.
Lawmakers noted that despite the country’s growing security and emergency response challenges, Nigeria continues to spend significant resources importing drones for surveillance, border monitoring, and other strategic operations.
According to the House, local production of drones would not only reduce costs but also create employment opportunities, stimulate innovation, and build local expertise in technology and manufacturing.
The lawmakers maintained that investing in domestic drone production would enhance Nigeria’s ability to respond effectively to security threats, monitor its borders, and improve emergency response capabilities during disasters.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has deferred consideration and debate on a Bill seeking to establish the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.
The lawmakers said the decision was necessary to allow members adequate time to study the proposed legislation and fully understand its objectives and implications before deliberations commence.
The bill seeks to create a formal national platform for traditional rulers across the country, but its consideration has been put on hold pending further review by members of the House.
