ICT Engineers Honour Olumayowa Idowu, with Fellowship

…As Engineering Leader Advocates Innovation, Digital Transformation and Engineering of Impact

The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Branch Chairmen Forum, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, SMIEEE, has received another professional recognition following his elevation to the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers (NIICTE), in acknowledgement of his contributions to engineering leadership, professional development and technological advancement.

The conferment took place at the Institute’s 2nd International Conference, Fellowship and Annual General Meeting held at the National Engineering Centre, Abuja, under the theme, “Building the Future of ICT Engineering: Bridging the Digital Divide through Skills, Innovation and Opportunities.” The recognition also admits Idowu, the Immediate Past Chairman of NSE Abeokuta Branch, into the Institute’s Board of Fellows, with the professional designation FNIICTE.

Announcing the recognition in a formal letter, the National Chairman of NIICTE, Engr. Oluwadara S. Oluwalana, FNSE, and the National Secretary, Engr. Yusuf Shobowale, MNSE, MNIICTE, explained that the Fellowship is reserved for accomplished professionals whose leadership, integrity, experience and service have contributed to the growth of ICT engineering. The Institute noted that its Fellows are expected to advance professional standards, mentor emerging engineers and promote technological solutions to national challenges.

Speaking on the recognition, Idowu described the honour as an encouragement to deepen his commitment to what he termed “Engineering of Impact,” a philosophy centred on using engineering knowledge and professional leadership to deliver practical benefits to society. “I sincerely appreciate the Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers for considering me worthy of this honour. I have always maintained that the true value of engineering lies beyond certificates, titles and positions. What matters most is the impact we make, the challenges we overcome and the opportunities we create for others. This Fellowship is another responsibility to do more for the profession and society,” he stated.

The engineering leader also called for greater investment in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and research-driven solutions to Nigeria’s developmental challenges. “Technology is changing the way we live, work and deliver essential services. We must position engineering at the forefront of this transformation by turning research into practical solutions that address challenges in healthcare, education, infrastructure and governance. Through my work in artificial intelligence and image processing, I have come to appreciate even more that innovation becomes truly valuable when it improves people’s lives. This is the spirit of Engineering of Impact, and it remains my guiding principle,” Idowu added.
