IGP DISU HONOURS PIONEER POLICE WOMEN, CHARGES GIRLS TO DREAM BIG
AOC: The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has celebrated the courage and contributions of pioneer women officers at the unveiling of The Origin of Police Women in Nigeria, authored by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dame Stella O. Okuyiga, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
IGP Disu noted that since women joined the Force in 1955, they have advanced from limited roles to leadership, intelligence, criminal investigation and tactical operations. He described the book as a valuable record of their sacrifices and a source of inspiration for younger officers and girls.
In a touching moment, the IGP recalled Mama Okuyiga’s promise to launch the book when her “son becomes the IGP,” declaring at the event: “Mama, your son is now the IGP!” He called for support to preserve police history and urged the Force to sustain equal opportunities based on merit, professionalism and dedication.
