INEC, STAKEHOLDERS SEEK TO BOOST VOTER TURNOUT AHEAD OF OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

INEC, STAKEHOLDERS SEEK TO BOOST VOTER TURNOUT AHEAD OF OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and key stakeholders have intensified efforts to address voter apathy and encourage greater participation in the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election.

The initiative formed the focus of a policy dialogue organised by INEC through its Electoral Institute, aimed at identifying practical strategies to improve voter turnout and strengthen democratic participation.

The dialogue brought together electoral officials, civil society organisations, political actors and other stakeholders to examine factors responsible for low voter turnout and explore solutions to increase citizens’ engagement in the electoral process.

Participants stressed the need for sustained voter education, public enlightenment campaigns and confidence-building measures to encourage eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibilities.

They also highlighted the importance of collaboration among electoral bodies, the media, civil society groups and community leaders in promoting awareness and strengthening public trust in the electoral system.

The forum underscored the significance of active citizen participation in ensuring credible elections and deepening democracy.

The policy dialogue is part of INEC’s preparations for the Osun State Governorship Election as efforts continue to mobilise voters and enhance electoral participation across the state.
