IGP DISU HONOURS OGBOMOSO SCHOOL RESCUE TEAM, CALLS FOR STRONGER SCHOOL SECURITY

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured police operatives and other security personnel involved in the successful rescue of victims abducted from Oriire School in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The recognition ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, celebrated the courage, professionalism and resilience of the operatives whose efforts led to the safe return of the school principal, teachers, students and pupils after weeks in captivity.

Speaking at the event, IGP Disu described school kidnappings as one of the most troubling security challenges facing the country, noting that attacks on educational institutions not only disrupt learning but also inflict deep trauma on victims, families and communities.

He commended the security personnel for their commitment and sacrifice throughout the rescue operation, describing their actions as a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to protect lives and secure educational institutions.

The Inspector-General stressed the need for stronger security measures around schools and greater collaboration among security agencies, communities and other stakeholders to prevent future attacks.

The successful rescue operation, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, brought relief to families and residents following the abduction of the victims from Oriire School in Ogbomoso.

The event also served as a platform to reaffirm the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to tackling insecurity and ensuring the safety of students and educational facilities across the country.
