NIMC DENIES NIN DATABASE BREACH, WARNS AGAINST FALSE CLAIM

NIMC DENIES NIN DATABASE BREACH, WARNS AGAINST FALSE CLAIM

The National Identity Management Commission has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the National Identification Number database has been breached as false.

In a statement by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, NIMC says the video making the claim is a recycled report from 2024, which the Commission had previously disclaimed.

NIMC assures Nigerians and legal residents that the National Identity Database remains secure, supported by multi-layered safeguards to protect personal information.

The statement urges the public to disregard the video and rely on NIMC’s official channels for information on the National Identity Management System.

The Commission also highlights its recently launched NIN Authentication platform, NINAuth, which enables secure identity verification with the explicit consent of NIN holders, without unnecessarily exposing their personal data. The platform supports services including SIM registration, immigration and passport processing, tax filings and financial transactions, in line with the NIMC Act 2026 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

The Commission reiterates its commitment to protecting citizens’ identity information and urges anyone with concerns about their NIN or personal data to contact NIMC through its verified channels.
