NIMET Raises Flood Alarm as Heavy Rains Threaten Lagos, Coastal States
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has urged residents of Lagos and other coastal states to remain vigilant as widespread and intense rainfall is expected across parts of southern Nigeria.
In its latest weather outlook, the agency warned that persistent heavy downpours could trigger flash floods, particularly in low-lying and coastal communities vulnerable to flooding.
NIMET forecast thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states over the coming days.
The agency advised residents to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautions, while motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution during rainfall and periods of reduced visibility.
