NIS DEPLOYS PASSPORT INTERVENTION TEAM TO CLEAR UK APPLICATION BACKLOG
The Nigeria Immigration Service is deploying a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications for Nigerians in the country.
In a statement, the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, says the intervention, directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is scheduled to commence on August 10, 2026, in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.
The statement says the team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing. The exercise is open to applicants with pending applications, new applicants, and holders of passports with less than one year to expiry who wish to renew.
Applicants are required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment, while the schedule of cities, dates, venues and enrolment times will be announced through the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission. Applicants are advised not to attend any location until the schedule is officially released.
The Nigeria Immigration Service says its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System and home delivery service, will remain operational throughout the intervention.
The Service also provides passport.london@immigration.gov.ng and the WhatsApp-only line +234 916 087 8000 for enquiries and complaints, and reaffirms its commitment to efficient and responsive passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
