Oluwo Declares Iwo Safe, Says Bandits Have No Foothold

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has declared that no bandit or criminal group can infiltrate Iwo or its surrounding communities due to the presence of a formidable and corruption-free local security network.

 

 

The monarch made the assertion on Saturday during the official inauguration of the League of Imams and Alfas of the South-West, Edo and Delta States, held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

 

 

According to the traditional ruler, the success of Iwo’s indigenous security outfit, known as Tawan alongside other community-based security structures, demonstrates the kind of effective and accountable security model Nigeria needs to address its growing insecurity challenges.

 

 

Oba Akanbi also urged Muslims to remain steadfast in the worship of Almighty Allah alone, stressing that Islam forbids idol worship. He maintained that traditional worship originated from human practices and not from God, encouraging Muslims to uphold the principles of monotheism.

 

 

The monarch further charged the Muslim Ummah to actively participate in politics, saying political involvement would enable Muslims to influence governance, contribute to policymaking and promote good leadership in Nigeria.

 

 

He described the inauguration of the League of Imams and Alfas as a new chapter for Muslims in the South-West, Edo and Delta States, expressing optimism that the organisation would foster unity, progress and hope across the region.

 

 

 

Speaking on the nation’s challenges, the Oluwo said the values of Islam provide solutions to many of Nigeria’s socio-political problems.

 

He cited the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, as an example of integrity and transparent leadership worthy of emulation.

 

 

 

He also encouraged Muslims to embrace innovation and give young people opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.

 

 

Reaffirming his personal conviction, Oba Akanbi declared that he would never worship any deity other than Almighty Allah, saying he has used his position as the Oluwo of Iwo to promote the supremacy of God while reforming traditional practices associated with the royal institution.

 

 

The monarch also dismissed speculations about threats to his throne, insisting that no governor has the power to remove him.

He claimed that successive administrations in Osun State had attempted to undermine his reign over the past decade without success because of the overwhelming support he enjoys from the people of Iwo.
