Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Gun, Axe in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally-made pistol, a live cartridge and a battle axe during a surveillance operation in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Temitope Ikumuniwon from Odigbo, was apprehended on June 17 at about 7:00 a.m. by operatives attached to the Igbotako Division while on routine patrol around Omotosho Motor Park along the Lagos-Ore Expressway.

The police said the suspect’s suspicious movement while attempting to board a commercial vehicle bound for Iju-Oke prompted a stop-and-search operation. A search of his cross-body bag reportedly led to the recovery of a locally-made pistol, one live cartridge and a battle axe.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm, the intended use of the weapons and the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities. It added that efforts were also underway to identify and apprehend any accomplices, while the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the vigilance of the operatives and the support of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support and leadership, which he said had strengthened the operational effectiveness of the Command.
