OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS THWART TERRORISTS’ ADVANCE TOWARDS GHANDI

SOKOTO – Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma have thwarted an attempt by armed terrorists to advance towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Acting on credible intelligence about the movement of the terrorists, the troops swiftly deployed to strategic positions around Ghandi Bridge, where they intercepted and engaged the group.

In a statement, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the terrorists came under superior firepower and were forced to retreat in disarray, with several reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds.

Some of the fleeing terrorists also reportedly attempted to escape by jumping into a nearby river.

A subsequent clearance and search operation conducted at daybreak led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one loaded magazine, additional rounds of ammunition and other personal effects abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The military said search and mop-up operations are ongoing in the area to track down the fleeing elements and further secure the community.
