ORIIRE RESCUE OPERATION: SENATE WANTS QUICK COMPENSATION FOR FALLEN HEROES

The Nigerian Senate has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies for the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Senate also called for the prompt payment of all statutory benefits to the families of security personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice during the operation.

In a motion sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, and supported by lawmakers, the Senate noted that the victims were rescued following an intelligence-driven operation by the Nigerian Armed Forces in collaboration with other security agencies.

The Senate also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation.
They include Lieutenant F. A. Isaac, Private Silas Musa of the 81 Battalion, and Sergeant Abena John Jerome of the Nigeria Police Force.

The chamber further acknowledged Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain of the 81 Battalion, who sustained injuries in the line of duty, and expressed sadness over the death of one of the abducted teachers while in captivity.

A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the fallen heroes.

In its resolutions, the Senate urged the Federal Government to sustain and intensify operations against terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits, while providing security agencies with modern equipment and improved welfare.

The Senate also urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing intelligence and cooperating with them.
It further called on key stakeholders to refrain from trivialising the government’s efforts to tackle criminality.
