OYO FIRST LADY MOBILISES WOMEN FOR 2027, RALLIES SUPPORT FOR MAKINDE’S PRESIDENTIAL BID

Engr. (Mrs) Tamunominini Makinde, the wife  of Oyo State governor, has called on women across the state to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

She made the appeal on Wednesday in Ibadan  during a women stakeholders’ meeting held at the Office of the First Lady in Ibadan. Beyond voter registration, Mrs. Makinde urged participants to rally behind her husband, Governor Seyi Makinde, in his campaign for the presidency under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Governor Makinde emerged as the APM’s presidential candidate in May 2026.

Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the vital role women play in community development and political decision-making.

“Women are at the heart of every community. We raise families, build businesses, nurture our children, support our communities and, in many ways, influence the direction of society,” Makinde said. “That influence comes with responsibility, and we must never underestimate the power of our collective voice.”

She charged women to extend their influence beyond their households by taking concrete action ahead of the polls.

“As we approach the election season, I encourage every one of us to be actively involved. Ensure that you collect your Permanent Voter Card and, most importantly, exercise your right to vote,” she stated. “In a special way, I call on you to support my husband, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is contesting for president, and other candidates on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.”

While calling on women to encourage their families, neighbours, and peers to join the electoral process, Mrs. Makinde emphasized the need for peace and decorum throughout the campaign season.

“Most importantly, let us not spread hatred, rumours or violence, because after the campaigns and the elections, we will still be neighbours, friends, mothers, sisters and members of the same communities,” she cautioned.

Beyond electoral politics, the she advocated for continuous female solidarity and advocacy:

“Let us support one another, create opportunities for one another, speak up when issues affecting women and children arise, and ensure that no woman feels that she has to face her challenges alone.”

Speaking earlier at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, commended the First Lady for convening the session and urged attendees to translate their appreciation into political support.

“It is only fitting that we reciprocate this goodwill with our loyalty and support to Governor Seyi Makinde and his wife, Engr. Mrs Tamunominini Makinde,” Sanni said. “I therefore urge all of you here present to align with and support the APM Party, a party that stands for inclusion, fairness and the advancement of women and families.”

Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo (RAD), Director of Mobilisation for the Women’s Wing of the APM 2027 Campaign Council, also addressed the gathering, reiterating the call for grassroots mobilization ahead of 2027.

The high-level meeting brought together key female figures in Oyo State government and politics, including the Head of Service, Dr. Mrs. Adenike Fasina; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi; Hon. Olufunke Comforter Olajide (Ibadan North Constituency I); and Hon. Bisi Oluranti Michael (Ogbomoso North).
