POLICE NEUTRALIZE NOTORIOUS BANDIT LEADER, ARREST THREE IN ZAMFARA

Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have neutralized a notorious bandit leader and arrested three suspected criminals during a successful operation in Gummi Local Government Area of the state.

 

The operation, which also led to the destruction of a bandits’ camp and recovery of weapons and motorcycles, was carried out by operatives of the Police Violence Crime Response Unit.

 

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the operation was conducted on June 9, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m. following credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits around the outskirts of Birisawa village.

 

The statement explained that the police team, led by CSP Usman Halilu Modibbo, Divisional Police Officer of Bukkuyum Division, swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle.

 

During the encounter, the gang leader was neutralized, while three other suspects were arrested. Several members of the gang reportedly escaped into a nearby forest with gunshot wounds.

 

The police also destroyed the criminals’ hideout and recovered three firearms as well as five operational motorcycles.

 

The command says a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
