RABE’S DEATH: CISLAC DEMANDS PROBE OF SECURITY FUNDS

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on the Federal Government to declare a national emergency on insecurity following the worsening cases of kidnapping, banditry and violent attacks across the country.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, CISLAC described the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in bandits’ captivity as a tragic national loss and a reflection of the deepening security crisis in Nigeria.

The organisation said the incident underscores the urgent need to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration and dismantle criminal networks sustaining insecurity across the country.

Rafsanjani also called for greater transparency and accountability in security spending, noting that despite trillions of naira allocated annually to defence and security agencies, the security situation continues to deteriorate in many parts of the country.

He urged the government to improve the welfare, training, equipment and operational capacity of security personnel while embracing proactive, intelligence-driven security operations.

While acknowledging ongoing discussions on state policing, CISLAC cautioned that any implementation must be backed by strong legal and accountability frameworks to prevent abuse.

The group further urged the National Assembly to strengthen its oversight functions and ensure the effective utilisation of resources allocated to security institutions.
