ROAD SAFETY: NIGERIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO REDUCING ROAD CRASHES AT UN ASSEMBLY
Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the implementation of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030, aimed at reducing road traffic deaths and injuries worldwide.
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, represented Nigeria at the 104th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on improving global road safety.
The meeting focused on scaling up governance, financing and implementation strategies towards achieving the target of halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.
Shehu Mohammed said Nigeria has strengthened fleet safety and improved evidence-based road safety management through the National Crash Reporting Information System.
He added that the country has also enhanced post-crash response through the National Emergency Call Centre to ensure quicker intervention during road accidents.
The Corps Marshal noted that Nigeria remains committed to adopting innovative measures and strengthening partnerships to improve road safety and protect lives.
